Press Release: Plans for Former Kutz Camp for 2022 and Beyond Unveiled

The Town of Warwick has finalized a plan to fully open and develop the former Kutz Camp for the enjoyment of residents while minimizing the cost to taxpayers.

Warwick, NY :   The Town of Warwick plans to fully open the former Kutz Camp for the enjoyment of residents. To start, the camp will have three main areas for residents to enjoy, including recreation, arts, and culinary opportunities. To manage the facility and coordinate all of the recreational activities we are pleased to introduce Samantha Walter, a local resident, with many years of experience as a national park ranger and as a manager of a YMCA. The town encourages residents to experience the camp’s many recreational activities including picnicking, walking/hiking, passive boating, fishing, swimming in two community pools, and pickleball. In addition, residents should look forward to future community events including the grand opening and renaming celebration, the Fuller Moon Arts Fest held on July 30th, seasonal community events, and more.

In addition to recreational opportunities, the camp has an extensive arts component and to develop that portion we would like to introduce The Warwick Institute of Culture (The Wick) – where imagination meets experience. This non-profit 501(c)(3) was founded by Emilee Dupré, a Broadway and film actress, director, choreographer, teacher, coach and a wellness practitioner.  Emilee Dupré is an artist and educator whose life is devoted to creating work that cultivates a sense of belonging, sparks curiosity, and evokes a sense of magic.  “The Wick” will serve as an incubator for artistic development of established and emerging talent, and offer immersive experiences of performance, art, education, service and wellness enjoyed in a beautiful rural environment. Devoted to nurturing lifelong learning for all ages, it will be a broadly inclusive place dedicated to a prestigious quality of artistry and training, providing the people of Warwick and its visitors with access to the cultural arts, and utilizing local talent to promote local businesses and enrich our existing community.  “The Wick” wants to hear from YOU!  Now accepting inquiries, suggestions, & submissions.  Programming begins in late July!

The culinary aspect, called the Warwick Umbrella Kitchen, has been conceptualized and developed by Warwick resident and Executive Chef Matt Watkins.  Matt spent four years in the United States Navy, attended the Culinary Institute, and has developed his culinary and leadership skills further in the restaurants of James Beard Award winning and Michelin Star rated Chefs.  Matt has spent a decade in leadership as an Executive Chef overseeing multi-million dollar accounts in the corporate culinary setting.

The purpose of the Warwick Umbrella Kitchen is to create a multiple use commissary kitchen space that will provide revenue generating opportunities for the local restaurants, local chefs, the Town of Warwick, and local vendors.  The creation of this kitchen space will improve the site’s offerings as a whole, adding value and opportunity for our community.  This will be accomplished through three different platforms; the Showcase Kitchen, the Catering Kitchen, and the Commissary Kitchen.

The Showcase Kitchen will provide a space where our local restaurants and chefs can execute multiple culinary concepts to enable them to expand their delivery and pick up capabilities for the community.   Through the Catering Kitchen, all catered events at the camp will be executed by local restaurants and chefs.  The Commissary Kitchen will be available to Warwick residents who wish to utilize the kitchen for other various purposes such as off-site catering production, food truck production, cooking classes or demonstrations, chef table events, or family meal pick-ups.

The Town is busily upgrading several buildings, the arts complex, the pools and converting one of the tennis courts into multiple pickleball courts.  All of this work fortunately will be funded by a movie company that will be filming this spring at the camp relieving the burden from local taxpayers, a win-win for us all. Please check the Town’s website, www.townofwarwick.org or our Facebook page for periodic updates and stay tuned for an exciting summer ahead.
