WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 5, 2010

Saturday, September 11, will mark the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attack which took the lives of 3,000 brave citizens including seven from our own Town.  What seems to get lost in all the ideological rhetoric of today is that these innocent civilians were murdered by an enemy committed to our destruction.  This is a struggle that will only end if America retains its will to defend our way of life for as long as it is threatened.  Please join the Nicholas P. Lesando, Jr. American Legion Post 214 as they remember and pay tribute to those brave men and women of the 9/11 attack on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 8:30 am in Memorial Park.

Recently there was a report of an algae bloom at Wickham Lake, the newest Town Park.  This is not unusual with all the hot weather; however, there are some precautions to take especially if blue-green algae is present.  Blue-green algae, technically know as cyanobacteria, are micro organisms that are naturally present in lakes and streams.  They are usually present in low numbers, however can become abundant in warm, shallow, undisturbed surface water that receives a lot of sunlight.  Some blue-green algae produce toxins that can be harmful to pets, or if swallowed when they are present in large enough concentrations.  As a precaution, if you or your pets come in contact with water containing algae, rinse off shortly after contact.  Also clean and wash thoroughly any fish caught in these waters before cooking.  The NYS Health Dept has some great information on their website at www.nyhealth.gov/environmental/water/drinking/bluegreenalgae.htm.  You can also call them direct at 800-458-1158 ext. 2-7820.

The Town Board has made a determination of completeness of the Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement (FGEIS) for the Community Business District.  This is the next step in the SEQRA process which now requires that the FGEIS be available for public review for the next ten days.  Copies are available at all Village halls, libraries and on-line.  The FGEIS contains responses to all of the public comments and incorporates many into an alternative to the initial proposed zone changes.  Written comment can be submitted to the Town Board c/o of the Supervisor’s Office, 132 Kings Highway, Warwick, NY 10990.

A public hearing to consider the alternative proposed zoning changes to Rt. 94 DS zone identified in the completed FGEIS will be held on Thursday, September 9, at 7 pm in the Warwick Town Hall.

The next regular meeting of the Town Board will be held on Thursday, September 9, at 7:30 pm in the Warwick Town Hall, 132 Kings Highway.
